This exhibition at the Boise Art Museum has been made possible in part by a grant from the Idaho Humanities Council, the state-based affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities. 

Katazome Today presents contemporary visions of a unique and historically significant Japanese textile-dyeing process. In this exhibition seven national and international artists share fresh perspectives on katazome through their current interpretations.
Artists featured include Akemi Cohn (Illinois), Melinda Heal (Australia), Fumiyo Imafuku (Japan), Cheryl Lawrence (Washington), John Marshall (California), Yuken Teruya (Germany), and Mika Toba (Japan).

Textile artist Melinda Heal brings a contemporary Australian approach to traditional Japanese dyeing techniques to create a remarkable exhibition at Newcastle’s Timeless Textiles Gallery. 

Exhibition of works inspired by a Craft ACT 2017 Spring Residency at Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve. Artworks by Ruby Berry, Holly Grace, Melinda Heal & Sally Mumford.

Through a Craft ACT residency in Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve during the spring of 2017, four artists had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the ecology and heritage which enveloped them.

The exhibition embraces their responses in glass, drawing, textiles and installation.

A solo exhibition at Galerie H20 in Kyoto. It will be my second time showing solo there after more than 4 years. All the works are new pieces that I have dyed in Australia, including the "Beautiful Weeds" series - a homage to the beauty of the often-ignored and misunderstood weeds of our neighbourhoods, as well as several sheer installation pieces that will hang in the gallery space. Come along and say hi!

Somé: Dyeing the Australian environment adds a uniquely Australian twist to the quintessentially Japanese textile practice of katazome and yuzen.

Textile artist Melinda Heal reflects the beauty of the Australian environment through the Japanese dyeing traditions ofkatazome and yuzen. Somé depicts Japanese sensibilities in capturing the gentle and rustic beauty of nature, with a hint of playfulness in its unlikely subjects—cockatoos, gumtrees, eucalypts and other native Australian species. Heal hand-dyes detailed designs on silk, cotton, linen and hemp textiles, capturing the strength and fragility of the bush.

My artwork will be part of the stunning architectural projections that will transform some of Canberra's iconic buildings during Enlighten 2016
